RESEARCH PROJECTS
At Peoples Public Lab, we strive to bridge the gap between research and the community. Our aim is to empower and amplify people who have faced historical and systematic oppression, displacement and other forms of social injustice. We work on projects which are led by the communities we engage and perform ethical research, always keeping their best interests in mind. We are committed to creating an environment of shared learning and knowledge exchange to create a better future for all. Our team of researchers, activists and experts are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of traditional research and creating meaningful and lasting change.

Updated Aug 31, 2025
As our partner, the Newark Water Coalition, starts their project of building a community resiliency hub which connects people in Newark to healthy food grown, the Peoples Public Lab will simultaneously be supporting them through technical assistance with water treatment, soil testing, energy forecasting and disaster planning. We envision a place for research, community, and education.

WATER SPACE: TESTING AND TREATING
Updated: Aug 31, 2025
How do we remove barriers to reliable water testing facilities? How can scientific equipment and tools be used to advance environmental and social justice initiatives at the grassroots and also create accessible tools and equipment? The Peoples Public Lab is exploring how to connect community science to established scientific methods of testing without the huge expenses. This takes the form of individual workshops for training on fundamental science information, fundraising to purchase some of the equipment for a public and open lab for folks to conduct their own tests, and building strategic relationships with labs and universities to access resources.
